Re: 10 highest scoring new/contemporary directors

I decided to start from 1995 instead so that it's a nice even 25 years. 1. John Lasseter - 89.33 (3) 2. Lee Unkrich - 87.40 (5) 3. Sam Mendes - 87.00 (3) 4. Christopher Nolan - 86.50 (6) 5. Pete Docter - 85.33 (3) 6. Andrew Stanton - 85.25 (4) 7. Bong Joon-Ho - 82.00 (3) 8. Phil Lord & Chris Miller ...

Re: Avatar the Last Airbender (2005-2008)

You didn't even respond to anything I brought up in my post, you simply just repeated what you said in your original post, as if repeating what you said would somehow clear up my confusion. Honestly, it doesn't feel like you're here to review films or to engage in light-hearted debate about them. Ju...

Re: Avatar the Last Airbender (2005-2008)

ummm... I thought the Fire Nation was evil because they were literally genocidal fascists? The Fire Nation: - Authoritarian dictatorship centered on the Fire Lord's cult of personality. - Zero tolerance for dissent, the Fire Lord nearly-killed and banished his own son for speaking out of turn. - Ag...

Re: Coolest Characters Names

Case in point, I live in Quebec, and I have to yet to watch an American film or TV show that has ever gotten a portrayal of French-Canadians correct, or even had an accent that's even close to what the French sounds like here. (Weirdly, the closest thing thing I've seen has been Mad Men , actually) ...

Re: Coolest Characters Names

You're right, Hollywood in general puts almost no effort into researching other languages/cultures/peoples. Big-budget Hollywood films spend over a year in a production; All one of the writers needed was one afternoon to do some reading and come up with a better version of that name, but Singer did ...

Re: Coolest Characters Names

Keyser Soze is a terrible character name. Imdb states that "Writer Christopher McQuarrie chose the name Keyser Soze from an English-to-Turkish dictionary." But that's impossible. Keyser is not a Turkish word and neither is Soze. You can look all you want. It was also said that "Keyser Soze is said ...

Re: Ranking the Bond films

You probably could skip the weaker ones to be honest. I've watched all of them because as a kid my family had a Christmas tradition of marathoning mulitple Bond films every year, and later when I was older I seeked out the few I had missed, but would I ever, now, actually recommend someone to watch ...
