Re: Image Game Tournament 2017 - DISCUSSION THREAD - DO NOT POST GUESSES HERE

I can't imagine how many hours of labour you must've put into this, but it was well-appreciated. I really enjoyed the format of this tournament even though I'm complete shite at guessing images, even of films I've seen multiple times. anyways thanks for all the hard work.

Re: What's your favourite classic mystery or noir that's NOT listed as popular or very popular in the database?

Just a few films that came to mind, from Crime, Thriller and Mystery genres: The Big House (1930) , 29 Rankings : It's from the early days of sound films, so it's aged pretty poorly, but it has some solid performances and some great claustrophobia-inducing camerawork. One of earliest films about pri...

Re: Who is King of the Critics?

I don't know, I'd argue that the critic closest to reaching Ebert's level of prestige and respect is probably Leonard Maltin, I see a lot of other critics reference and quote his work, although personally, I'm not the biggest fan of his work.

Re: Two statements on the state of cinema

I disagree with the assertion that "cinema is dead." Rather, I'd argue that it is middle-brow cinema that is dying, in other words the sort of films that fimmakers like Scorsese make, (or Spielberg when he wants to be serious, or even Scott sometimes, on a good day) the films that usually ...

Re: 21st century directors: any great ones?

Ignoring tierlists, here are the directors that I feel have made 2 or more films I'd consider to be great and had their directorial debut in year 2000 or later: Alejandro González Iñárritu (4 Films: Amores Perros , Babel , Birdman , The Revenant ) Apichatpong Weerasethakul (3 Films: Tropical Malady...

Re: ‘Last Tango in Paris’: Director Bernardo Bertolucci Says Infamous Rape Scene Was Not Consensual

Is Last Tango in Paris a worse film as a result of this admission? Yes, absolutely. There is no excuse for assault, rape or abuse done in the name of art, even great art, and the film definitely would have been better had this not been a part of it's production. (I'm also looking at you Jodorowsky a...

Re: video games please

No, As much as I would love to see something like criticker for video games, I agree, that the mediums should be segregated. There should be one set of TCIs and PSIs for film/television, and one set of TCIs and PSIs for video games. For example, clicking on someone's profile would show both their Fi...

Re: lots and lots of bugs

Yeah, I can report I'm having all of the exact same problems Lisa is having. The Mobile-friendly changes have probably altered a lot of stuff in the code and my guess is that it'll take a couple of days to iron everything out.
