Re: "Oldboy"
But the scene if absurd. It's worse than the remake. It is absurd, but it's awesome. One-take?? It's impressive enough that such a scene could even be filmed. How can you watch that and not be entertained? I can understand your problem with it. It's obviously unrealistic and I totally get that it's...

What a morbid game.

Re: 2013 in review
Two movies I think deserve to be in the discussion that I haven't seen yet are Prisoners and This Is the End . Prisoners is one of the most tense movies I've seen. It's much more subversive than I expected from an American movie. The acting is phenomenal. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. ...

Re: 47 Ronin
My girlfriend mentioned a desire to watch this picture. I categorically refused. Surprised this isn't grounds for break up I have learned to accept her occasionally awful movie taste. Two of the worst flicks I watched this year (and maybe ever), "Drop Dead Fred" and "The First Wives'...

Re: War of the Worlds (2005)
On a side note, I found the article djross provided to be very interesting, and it did seem to shed some light on the mixed reaction. Definitely true. I'm sort of internally conflicted about whether and to what extent that sort of thing is appropriate...but that may be a conversation for another th...

Re: War of the Worlds (2005)
where is the controversy for this movie coming from? To call it controversy may be to overstate matters somewhat, but the movie was criticised in some quarters for the way it deliberately invokes the imagery of the September 11 attacks, and was seen as "playing on the fears" generated by ...

Re: "Inssterstellar"
For one, it wouldn't serve the story: the whole premise is that people can be fooled into believing their dreams are reality. While this is a good argument on your part that's also exactly the problem I have with Inception - I find this concept silly and ridiculous. Dreams are surreal by nature and...

Re: "Inssterstellar"
Dreams and the dream state are just a vehicle for the story, not the subject for examination. But this in no way makes Inception's unimaginative dream portrayal immune to criticism. I didn't say that the whole film is horrible, after all I have it in my Tier 5. It has interesting general concept, t...
