Dream Combinations

Post by MmzHrrdb »

I know I always dream that some of my favorite actors will work with some of my favorite directors, and I'm sure many of you do also. So which actors would you love to see work with certain directors?

For me, my two favorite actors are probably Edward Norton and Philip Seymour Hoffman (obviously it was pretty cool watching them work together in 25th Hour), and my favorite directors are probably Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan, and PT Anderson. Now obviously Philip Seymour Hoffman has worked with PT Anderson on several occasions, but other than that Norton or PSH haven't worked with these directors. I look forward to the day that I will hopefully see these fine actors work with these directors.

Not an actor, a cinematographer, I'd like to see David Lynch team up with Christopher Doyle. That's the best I got at the moment. edit: I guess I'm not entirely positive that they would mesh since I generally feel Lynch's presence in every shot, and the force that Doyle brings requires more space in which to operate. If that makes any sense. It'd still be possible, of course.

Most of my favorite actors and directors are dead. :|

My fave directors among those currently active include the Coens, Tarantino and Cronenberg. My fave actors currently active include Robert Duvall, Johnny Depp, John Malkovich and Christian Bale. Of these, I think the only combination that have actually worked together are Malkovich and the Coens (Burn After Reading).

The Coens tend to work with the same pool of actors for the most part, but Depp and Bale starring opposite each other (possibly with Depp as the villain?) in a Cronenberg thriller could be awesome. Malkovich with a key but quirky role in a Tarantino film (not unlike Christopher Walken's one scene cameo in Pulp Fiction) would be pretty cool too.

Public Enemies :D . Jokes aside, I would dig anything by Cronenberg.

I got my superteam with Cage and Herzog and wasn't disappointed.

Guess I can hope Cage/Bernal/Cotillard (Favorite current actors) work with Herzog/Malick/Fincher/Aronofsky (Favorite current directors).

Yeah this would be pretty awesome I agree. Cronenberg is also one of my favorites. Would this be in the same vein as Cronenberg's newer stuff (Eastern Promises, A History of Violence) or his older body horror stuff? Either way it would be awesome. Maybe he'd even bring back Viggo Mortensen again.

Yeah Public Enemies was OK but I found it to be a bit of a let down from how great it could have been.

And Depp and Bale together in a modern Cronenberg would be cool, but an old style body horror freak out would be extra awesome. Depp has lots of experience with the grotesque (mostly through the Burton collaborations) and Bale is no stranger to undergoing drastic physical transformations for roles.

Or how about Tarantino taking a shot at a Western, with Duvall in the lead? A Tarantino penned western about a broken down old gunslinger could be pretty interesting.

I'd like to see Jodorowsky making musical "Freaks" remake starring Peter Bark, Michael Berryman and Goddess Bunny.

Also Jorg Buttgereit and Angelina Jolie would be a sweet combination.

Martin Scorsese/Benicio Del Toro. This is why I had a boner for the prospect of "Silence", but that dream appears to be dead...

Scorsese is another of my favorites. I probably haven't seen a lot by Del Toro, but I thought he was great in 21 Grams and didn't do a bad job in Sin City.
