The Rev. Al Gore at it again

Post by Stewball »

Ten years on an the Right Reverend Al Gore, the apostle of global warming, er climate change, is back in the pulpit with more evangelistic sermonizing, doubling down with a sequel, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power (more rightly titled An Obnoxious Sequel: A 'Documentary' to My Dreams of Power), set for release this summer.

He declares that "sea level rise and storm surge flooded the 9/11 Memorial". So why, after Hurricane Sandy was gone did sea level turn out to be the same?

Showing the time lapse of a rain shower, he declares, "Watch the water splash off the city!" (OMG OMG OMG), and declares (read hopes), "despair can be paralyzing."

And finally he asks, "What would to take to shift to renewable?" How about converting the blovations of limousine/Learjet/multimansion liberals like you, along with capturing bovine flatus. We could close down oil refineries overnight.

The lies and misrepresentations in the preview (which I saw yesterday, almost making me heave my popcorn) of this mental suppository alone is all I needed to rate this as a big fat zero. It's too bad that negative scores won't register.

i always find it odd that you post these threads with a tone that seems to expect a response of the sort your mates at the pub would occasionally interject with while listening to your lengthy invective on current events: a one-sided grin, a knowing nod of the head, and an approving "yeah", or perhaps "exactly".

so, in the interest of sustaining a pleasant and amiable environment, i shall acquiesce. yeah. exactly. isn't it crazy?

Just documenting the documentaries. This is a movie discussion forum isn't it, and movies, fiction or otherwise, are often controversial aren't they? Or should we just talk about the weather...except for global warming of course? 8-)

I don't know if cricizing a documentary for its 'truthiness' is the way to go lol. Al Gore can't predict the future and neither can you, a documentary just presents information, you critique how well it was presented, how engaging it was, etc. I'm not someone who's feverishly into making change for climate change but at the same time if I was hypothetically against it, I probably wouldn't watch a documentary about it so I'm not sure why you did  .

Anyways, I read the conspiracies about how it's all a hoax back in the day and this pretty much sums up my feelings towards the topic, even if it was, what's the harm?:

And for a short moment I hoped this thread was about the Rev. Al Green.

So a documentary's job is to talk and for us to agree? Well then, hey, watch this one:

I watched the first one and saw the same socialism promoting lies cropping up in this one again. But I agree, those who are unable to discern between fabricated lies and the Truth, ought to bug off.

Create a better socialist world for nothing? You're back to defending socialism against capitalism, autocracy vs. freedom.

Yeah if you were just discussing the movie it'd be fine....but you always seem to turn the threads into pedantic, quote filled arguments about your political views, which no one really cares about. The confrontational tone of your original post makes it a pretty blatant attempt to pick a fight.

If you want to debate politics, there are forums for that.

Personally, I'm not interested in the slightest in debating politics, and would much prefer if these forums had a shit load less of it.

My $0.02

I've found that reaction to be based in a resentment that people just don't like being unable to defend what they want to put their blind faith in. Yeah, I do it regularly, but only because some movie makers but their political bullshit up on the screen regularly--and this one's as bad as it gets, while Hillary's America is at the other end of the scale. And it's not just documentaries. Even The Fate of the Furious is front-loaded with visions of Cuban Communism and Che Guevara through a rose colored filter, and while most people realize it's bs progaganda, they think, like you, that we shouldn't criticize it because to do so is "confrontational". If you want to close your eyes and cover your ears that's easy enough to do--it's been ever thus.

That' my Paineful Truth 2¢.

Well, Stewie does it a lot, lot lesser than before.

And you said, in that thread, "Yeah, I know. It's because it's a rare review from Stewball which doesn't have some line about liberals or PC or something else. He usually sees something political in every movie." And this was in response to Shogun's comment that it was you who made a political comment in the first place. And why do you object to political comments instead of trying to show how such political comments are wrong, or more to the point, that politics is more pervasive in movies than we care to admit? And I think my finding "something political in every movie" is extreme hyperbole.

I don't put blind faith in anything. I'm a nihilist.

...and I could care less about being confrontational, I just think politics are boring as fuck.
