Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights

Post by hotsake »

I am never a fan of when you set a film in the past but have everyone act like they are in the present. Javier was kind of a dick to everyone and not in the lashing-out type of way but in a contemptuous kind of way. I think that the biggest issue I have with the movie is the focus. In the first film, the focus was romance, discovering yourself, and believing in yourself. While in this movie it is more about the Cuban struggle with everything else taking a big back seat. I am all about historical drama but here it wasn't done well enough because of the confines that the title of the film placed upon it and the fact that both characters were pretty one-dimensional and lack any chemistry together. Well, that and the fact that this felt more like a '90s film than something set in the 50s.
