Summary of 2019 viewing

Post by djross »

Below is a summary of my year's viewing for 2019. A summary of the previous year's viewing can be found by following this link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7872.

2019 saw a significant drop in the number of movies viewed, as other activities ended up taking up a great proportion of time, but also a higher than usual number of re-watches.
  • 2019 SUMMARY

New films watched during 2019: 110 films. Average percentile: 50.

Masterpieces (scores between 91 and 100) watched in 2019: 0 new films. But among the films re-watched in 2019 was Dreyers's The Passion of Joan of Arc, whose score was boosted to 94, meaning that the total number of masterpieces is now 99 (counting The Battle of Chile as three films).

Percentile between 90 and 99 watched in 2019: 1 film. Shoah: The Four Sisters (Claude Lanzmann).

Percentile between 80 and 89 in 2019: 12 films. Scores of 80: Marriage Story, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters. Scores of 75: The Cordillera of Dreams, Faraon, The Forest of Love, The House That Jack Built, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, A Lesson in Love, Mother Joan of the Angels, Mujo, Sweetgrass, To Joy.

Lowest scoring films watched in 2019: A score of 20: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. A score of 15: Legion of Fire: Killer Ants!. The latter is more enjoyable viewing, in my opinion.

First and last films watched in 2019: first was First Reformed (Schrader, 2018); last was Mujo (Jissoji, 1970). Two films that were in some way about whether religion conflicts with desire.

Seen at the theatre in 2019: 3 films. They are: The Clock, The Cordillera of Dreams, and Ad Astra.

2019 films watched: 23 films. Highest score was for Marriage Story, with a score of 80, followed by The Cordillera of Dreams and The Forest of Love, with scores of 75. The lowest score for a 2019 movie was received by Avengers: Endgame (35).

Re-watched in 2019: 21 films. Among them: Badlands (at a cinema in Hangzhou), The Passion of Joan of Arc, The New World, Chile, la memoria obstinada, Smiles of a Summer Night, The Death of Empedocles.
