there have been instances when clearing the cache has seemed to resolve it, and others when it hasn't, so it's possible the former were just coincidences and it fixed itself as you say.

i'm actually fairly sure it is happening around the same time, come to think of it. can't be a coincidence that all my posts about the subject are between 11.20pm and 12.40am GMT -- i wouldn't say i use the site any more than usual at those times, and i think when it seemed to be fixed that may have been because i hadn't been using it so late. next time it happens i'll check for the time.

Thanks for reporting this -- of course it's happening at a time when we're normally asleep, but I've just opened a bug to investigate the slowdown.

Hopefully we'll figure this out soon!
