I note that when I look up a film that I've already ranked it states 'your PSI *was* XX'. That suggests to me that the value is locked to the PSI on the date that I ranked the film and in a way, I'd prefer if that was the case personally. However I expect the value evolves in the same way that PSIs evolve for unseen films as you rank more and more films.
Can someone clarify if PSI values are locked when you rank a film or do they continue to evolve?
Are PSIs for ranked films permanent or do they evolve?

They evolve.
The pe page and its mechanic is the same whether or not you've ranked a film.
I rated Onibaba in 2008, and most of the users contributing to the current PSI joined Criticker after 2008.
Thus the PSIs then and now have been drawn from a completely different set of data.
Perhaps someone else will explain it better, but I hope that makes sense.
