Option to add and show similar listings

Post by uvlalid »

On a film/game's page, there'd be a "Similar" section where users can add other films/games that they think are similar to the current one and which would show a list of these ordered by the amount of users that thought the listing was similar. This would serve as a nice alternative to the "Recommended" page if looking for a listing based on similarity to another, instead of based on PSI (or complementary to it).

If this feature is added, please add an option to permanently hide this section, as this type of section can function as a spoiler. Basically any movie with a twist could spoil or be spoiled by movies with similar twists if those are the ones in the similar section.

Thanks for the suggestion! We do like the idea of "similar" films, and this might be a nice way to implement it. We've written it down!

nice idea!

especially the "ordered by the amount of users that thought the listing was similar" part is helpful, if it is implemented as a kind of voting system so that the closest matches automatically "bubble up" as they have the most votes.

Thanks for linking the related thread. TBH, I don't think the voting part is even required, because the fact that users would be indicating that they thought one film is related to another is already a form of "voting". Adding a voting system on top of adding the option to indicate that a user thinks one film is similar to another film is unnecessary and would just add one more variable to the equation, making it more complex to compute, as well as potentially causing double-counting if improperly utilised.
