100 99% The Last of Us Part II (2020) - Jun 22, 2020
"Nothing is played safe; likely the most daring narrative decisions in video games and without a doubt the most powerful, uncompromising interactive experience on a thematic level I have ever played. The heavy focus on complex themes and deeply rooted character work will surely leave some players angered or upset, but that is a risk Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog are clearly willing to take and the game is all the better for it. This is something special. Story debate https://youtu.be/rf7JWMkzvHY"
61 54% Metro Exodus (2019) - Jun 16, 2020
"I respect the guts to evolve as a series. I loved exploring the hub worlds + the way the more scripted moments were interspersed. I wouldn't call this a step backward at all, but there is certainly way more frustrating BS than the previous games. My playthrough was quite glitchy; the movement speed is fine for traversal, I appreciate the slower pace but the sluggish movements hamper combat; the load times are ridiculous on PS4, long conversations play out with everyone just standing still, etc."

"I can see the merit. Not my kind of thing."
75 79% Call of Duty: WWII (2017) - Jun 06, 2020
"Not interested in the multiplayer so that does not factor into my score. I played one zombies match that lasted over an hour and I got bored with it before the end. The campaign was quite enjoyable though. The story isn't anything special, but by Call of Duty standards, I was blown away just by virtue of there being actual characters with real arcs. The graphics are truly stunning at times."
50 25% Get Even (2017) - Jun 01, 2020
"Crams together incongruous elements and is a tonal mess as a result"
70 70% Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (2011) - May 22, 2020
"The first true JRPG I was really giving a try, aside from Legend of Dragoon I guess back when I was a dumb baby. I was enjoying the charm of Ni no Kuni up until my save file corrupted and set me back 10 hours worth of progress. No way I'm powering through all that again, so I suppose this game will remain undone for the foreseeable future. Maybe I'll jump right into the sequel..."
55 35% Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (2009) - May 09, 2020
"This is such a dad game"
58 42% Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (2014) - May 01, 2020
"I find the look of the world exceedingly ugly and navigating it to be a chore. The climbing is janky as hell, and the combat is fun but it's just less-responsive Arkham fighting. The "story" framework might as well not even be there with how little it matters. The nemesis system is a great idea and shows real potential, but I don't think they quite pulled it off this time around."
76 82% Control (2019) - Apr 29, 2020
"Incredible, stylistically speaking. The excellent combat paired with the unparalleled destructive environments inches ever closer to the playable John Woo shootouts that Remedy has been (successfully) striving toward. The open-world element of the game is more of a hinderance than anything, and the upgrade/progression systems feel tacked on and unnecessary. Gets a tad too repetitive toward the end, and the conclusion to the story severely underwhelmed me; both endings; all three endings..."
80 87% Prey (2017) - Apr 25, 2020
"I slept on this when it came out. What a delightful surprise. The exploration and problem solving are excellent and the story has just enough intrigue to propel exploration. Many games pretend to offer differing play-styles, but the options really do feel distinct and legitimate here. The fabricating system is fun and freeing; I scoured every resource, stuck to a mostly gloo/wrench combat approach, and was able to fabricate enough neuromods to get every upgrade by the midpoint"
