Re: When Criticker guesses wrong
I have seen Aguirre, for the record I rated it 90 as opposed to Raiders which I rated 73. I can see where you're coming from, rating movies that are hyped as masterpieces lower when you consider them to be mediocre, but.. Well, I can't fully sympathize with it. Saying Raiders is a mediocre and &quo...

Re: Rankings: In-the-now or over time?
One would assume that some movie rankings may change over time, depending on how well it "holds up" given the time. Some are generally pretty much stable, I find this is easiest with the transcendent/best movies and also the nadir, the absolute worst. If any of these rankings change years ...

Re: When Criticker guesses wrong
I just checked and it looks like criticker really badly predicts what I'll like I found >50 movies with difference between my score and PSI higher or equal to 40 Biggest differences: PSI > My score 1. Mother and Son PSI: 85, my score: 0, difference: 85 2. Goodbye Dragon Inn PSI: 80, my score: 0, di...

Re: When Criticker guesses wrong
Here's a big one: Raider's of the Lost Ark PSI: 71 My score: 1 I know, I'm an asshole. Then there are backwards ones, like Lessons of Darkness: PSI: 64 My Score: 98 Apparently people don't get it . Violent Cop also suffers the same, as do most Kitano movies...I honestly don't see what the hate is fr...

Top 5 Film Music Scores
Sorry if this has already been posted (I did a quick search for it and did not get any results), but I was wondering if it was possible to put a section similar to favourite actors/directors/screenwriters for the composers/arrangers of a film score. I know this would probably take a fair bit of edit...

Re: Chinese film about a young emperor
Ok, thanks for the heads up and the help once again. I'll probably look into it down the road. I still have a huge list of movies on my "must see" list and plenty more just a tier under that, haha.

Re: Chinese film about a young emperor
Wow that's embarrassing. It was a heck of a lot more obvious than I expected. And for the era, that makes sense, but when I saw part of it on TV at the time I think I was around 12 or 13, so then anything that "looked slightly old" and anything that looked "really old" at the tim...

Chinese film about a young emperor
This has bothered me for a while, but I remember I watched about 30 minutes of an older film (60's or 70's) that if I recall correctly was in Chinese (not sure whether it was Mandarin or Cantonese, or whether it was shot in Taiwan or HK) with English subtitles . One scene in it the kid emperor get's...

Re: The Year That Was 2001
Amusingly enough, I think I failed most of the films listed so far that I've seen. By a lot.
I do still need to see Mullholland Drive and probably Memento though.

Re: Subjectivity vs. Objectivity (in art)
75% objective 25% subjective, or something like that. To say that it's 100% of either is a falsity. Obviously art requires some emotional/personal attachment (the subjective part, and I think this enriches how objectively GOOD a film is to the viewer). There are some films I have seen now that I bel...
