Re: Best dialogue-driven film you've seen?

All Whit Stillman, all Eric Rohmer, all Noah Baumbach, all Hal Hartley (a lot going on with him aside from just dialogue, but it's the best dialogue). I found Winter Sleep a bit ponderous, belabored, and humorless myself, but that's just me. I have the same problem with Bergman, so make of that wha...

Re: Best dialogue-driven film you've seen?

Have just watched the epic 'winter sleep'. Transfixed in the dialogue, possibly the shortest long (3hrs18mins) film I've ever seen. So I was curious, are there any films you would recommend that are almost entirely dialogue based.? My favorite types of movies are ones of any genre that emphasize di...

Re: Black Panther

That is a fair point about the source material being fantasy based and to remember that when judging the content of a film based on said structure. That being said I think that has translated into both Marvel and DC thinking Fantasy= Parody and they opt fot more humour than usually necessary in ord...

Re: Black Panther

I definitely understand where your critcisms are coming from. I definitely felt the lack of humour was a better approach to this film. Marvel tends to have random ill placed humour. It worked for Deadpool because it was the main tone for Deadpool. Marvel needs to step away from the mashup movies an...

Re: Black Panther

Disney/Marvel hit the box office mother lode with this black blockbuster, and the middle was done exceptionally well, but there was little humor and much macho/femcho posturing throughout. The Lion King style music was a definite plus which it could have utilized more. And of course Disney/Marvel ju...

IDK, perhaps my cynicism has faded over time more than I care to admit, relatively speaking (sigh).

Superb! Hey Jack, c'mon, spirit of the Joker. What...can't handle the truth. ("We are not amused"). Give him a portrait of Castro with your sig... 8-)

And if we asked him what he thought about our stirring tribute, he'd probably answer, in character, "I didn't ask".

The Post

Well done suspenseful drama about the publication of the top secret Pentagon Papers which delineated the history of US involvement in Vietnam from Truman through Johnson, but not Nixon as the film portrays it. Nixon hadn't even been inaugurated when the papers were compiled--and Nixon never banned t...

Being "schlock" already has it in the bottom 10%, but horror schlock puts it into negative territory.
