Really, what exactly bugged you about Reggio? I'm used to see filmmakers seeming idiotic whenever they open their mouth.
See above. I am a software engineer by profession, sir, and by that ridiculous statement about the Internet he's implicitly accused me of being a fascist, since I'm one of the people whose job it is to build and maintain computer systems. That was so insulting and lame... and was particularly hard to take since Koyaanisqatsi was the first "art" film I went to see all by myself. (I was just a boy. I must have been about 12.)
This may just be because this is a movie forum, but this is one of the few conversations I know about this where Spike Lee hasn't been mentioned.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Last Crusade, and Close Encounters are legitimately good. 90's and late 80's stuff survives off of nostalgia, but just about everything else deserves hate. He's a better producer for children's cartoons than a director at any rate.
Buh, for a second I thought you meant Paul Thomas Anderson and sat here in bafflement. At a glance, that other guy seems to have made a lot of crap.
Is it OK to hate 2000s Tim Burton and to like 90s Burton? Scissorhands and Ed Wood are fantastic, Sleepy Hollow is decent. Planet of the Apes is utter rubbish, and he's only made one film this decade that isn't a remake as far as I know. He's also, it seems, remaking Frankenweenie, his first film. God, enough with the damn remakes.
I hate Steven Spielberg. The worst thing about his films are the endings, so happy, sentimental etc that makes me sick. Actually average no-budget 80s horror z-movie has more sophisticated ending than usual Spielberg film. And now something I just realised - few of my average ratings for directors: Joe D'Amato: 58.33 Francis Ford Coppola: 51.67 Steven Spielberg: 51.43 Wow I'm shocked by that - there's seriously something wrong with me
21 Grams was so ham-fisted and contrived that, by the end, I was laughing at how absurd the lives of the characters was. I was expecting someone to get hit by a bus right after they left a building it was so cliche.
Babel wasn't much better. It was just an exercise in how people make bad decision over and over. It also was contrived how everyone had such shitty luck and were directly involved with on another.
I'll admit his short Powder Keg was good but everything else has just resulted in critics shitting themselves over how "good" it is.
