Re: "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

Saw this in theaters today with the wife. We both liked the movie. She watched the series as a kid (re-runs), and seemed quite pleased with the movie. I didn't know anything about it going in except that it was a spy comedy (and it's not). I think everyone did a fantastic job in their performance, b...

Re: "Mad Max: Fury Road"

What made this movie good was the "art" of the entire thing. Did you see a bunch of crazy fucking CGI shit in this? Nope. This is a master at his craft. Those action sequences were amazing considering. Compare this to some bullshit film every loves like Tarkovsky's Stalker, which can be su...

Re: When do you rate films?

Typically it's months later. Unless I'm confident that the film has a solid place somewhere in my rankings, I'll wait until I've had time to let it stew around in my head, come up in conversation, and see what emotions I recall when I see trailers or DVD adverts for it. It's it's a more obscure film...

Re: What proportion of your ranked movies are American?

1,474 of 1,642, or around 90%. I'm not surprised in the least. I'm American. And America is great.

Re: "Mad Max: Fury Road"

Just really curious about the "half-life" thing, and the weird tumors. The fallout was at least 20 years ago if this is the 4th film in the franchise (and not a reboot). if we assume 20 years, it's still within a reasonable timeframe that the people parenting these kids would have mutated...

Re: "Mad Max: Fury Road"

there was an interview i remember reading with george miller where he talked about successful world-building and how it involves pretty much explaining nothing No, I get that. I'm sure all the pieces are there, and when I can get it on DVD and really go over it, I'm sure I'll understand things. Jus...

Re: "Mad Max: Fury Road"

Did anybody really understand the plot? I mean, I got that the sexy bitches were the fat guy's wives and were being stolen, but why wasn't he fucking Charlize fucking Theron? And who were the fat chicks with the milk titties? And why were all the albino kids dying and having tumors and stuff? And wh...

Re: "Jurassic World"--high heels and dinosaur packs

(I do that automatically, comes with the territory I s'pose) Oh, man, that's a pun. That's a play on words, those words being your user name. The rest of your post was making excuses for a movie you probably liked more than you should have. But, like I said, it was a likeable film, just disappointi...

Re: "Jurassic World"--high heels and dinosaur packs

Demure? Using big words and making me look shit up. Mother fuck. Well, my ranking system... If I enjoyed the movie, I'll rank it above a 50. I enjoyed watching Furious 7. It was fun, but an otherwise stupid film. I can't just rush into ranking movies, you know. I have to let them stew a while and se...

Re: "Jurassic World"--high heels and dinosaur packs

Movie was a lot of fun, but incredibly overrated. Went in expecting to be blown away but felt the entire film was just a homage to the first one. And the plot didn't make a lick of sense. I mean, visually it looked cool, but if it's not believable, and I can't even suspend my disbelieve because I'm ...
