Guess the movie from the clues

Re: Guess the movie from the clues
Well, lines 2 & 3 make me think of The Phantom Tollbooth (the book, at least... haven't seen the movie). Can't remember if there's a Lola in that, though.

Not The Phantom Tollbooth. I would have thought most people had seen it.
Someone ought get it on the first one, but this is fun - so another.
with faux thor hair and leopard's pace
a penciled stairwell time will chase
many marks upon a train
but not a tranny of kinks song fame
the glass of sand just one third full
on butterfly's wing, turns once more
the danger heeds the banshee's call
when time runs twenty potent wishes

Re: Guess the movie from the clues
So I think we're going to try and revive this game and see if it takes off. A recap of the rules as I understand them
1. First player posts two textual clues to the name of a film.
2. If there are no correct answers, first player posts two additional clues and so on until someone posts the correct answer
3. The person with the correct answer posts the next two clues for the next film.
4. Only one guess per person per pair of clues
Simple, eh?
Also my own personal suggested guideline
Post the next pair of clues after 3 wrong guesses or 24 hrs have passed, which ever comes first
So here goes ...
1. The Director has directed another film that is one of the top 30 grossing films of all time.
2. In honour of reviving the thread, a main character in the film dies and comes back to life.
... and no google image searching! ... oh wait ... wrong thread ... carry on!

I'm gonna guess The Abyss (even though Cameron has more than one film in the top 30).

Very good guess which fits the criteria, but it's not the one I'm thinking of.
Why couldn't it be Cameron? I didn't say the director had only directed one film in the top 30 grossing films list

I first thought maybe a Tim Burton film (seeing as Alice in Wonderland is tragically a success). Then Peter Jackson/Lord of the Rings came to mind (You could almost argue Gandalf, that's not what I'm getting at though). It's been forever since I saw it but The Frighteners (1996) comes to mind. Michael J. Fox can like become a ghost and he eventually decides he's not ready to die so he goes back to his normal body. Sorry for the vague bio and I might be completely wrong but that's my guess!

Re: Guess the movie from the clues
That's well worked out, good sir! I thought I was being vague enough to bring it into a second pair of clues, but Maaxwell picked up on my deliberately careful wording about the top grossing films list which made it a little easier. There was still a lot of work to do from there though so I'm surprised you got it so quickly.

1. An American was initially upset towards a European for this film being made.
2. This is a conversation in the movie where I have removed a certain word.
"What are these fuckin' _______ doing on my coffee table?"
"There ain't no ______"
"...Yeah, there are."
"There ain't no ______."
"What the fuck is that?"
"Fuckin' ______. "

3. There are 7 words in it's title.
