Xtreme Legends added several new features to Dynasty Warriors 3, including new items and the ability to fully customize bodyguards. The player can also import content from the DW3 disc while playing Xtreme Legends by using the "Load Original" option. If played by itself, DW3:XL only features its own scenarios and Musou modes.
