A pretty big jump in presentation quality and an arbitrary shift to a sci-fi theme. To the surprisingly minor extent that the new bells and whistles impact gameplay with jumps and recharge pads and whatnot, it feels more gimmicky than anything (F-Zero it is not). Mostly an easy sort of "spam boost, then spam boost some more" sort of racer. Very nice soundtrack, though.
