This year's most-loved list on Criticker is classicly unique, and we only have you, our film-loving members to thank for that. What other 'best of' list do you know of that has everything from Irish rap anarchists and manga-loving small-town girls, and yes, hundreds of beavers too?!

How does Criticker make the top films of 2024 list?

You may know the score by now, but here at Criticker, we don't show you the films of 2024 that have the highest average rating by all users.

This list of the top 20 most-loved titles of 2024 is the movies which the highest percentage of users rated in their top 20% of all time.

We love stats here, and doing things this way gives us the most accurate (and most interesting) best movies list of the year.

20. I Saw the TV Glow

Love Percentage: 26.3%

A queer, supernatural, nostalgia-trip of a movie about a suburban teenager whose grasp on reality begins to crack when he's introduced to a mysterious late-night TV show. Our users loved the vibes, the acting and the David Lynch-esque stylings.

19. Wicked

Love Percentage: 27.51%

The first of a two-part adaption of the hit Broadway show, Wicked is the big-budget musical story of the origins of the infamous Wicked Witch of the West. Fans loved Grande and Erivo's performances and chemistry as well as the magical set design.

18. Challengers

Love Percentage: 27.55%

Luca Guadagnino was back at it this year with another slice of sexy rich people. This time they're tennis stars and old friends and lovers, fighting for a Grand Slam and each other's attention. Criticker users raved about the Reznor/Ross soundtrack and how the director unashamedly presents this story of sex and power.

17. Flow

Love Percentage: 28.38%

It's a story about a cat. That might be all there is to it, but it's a heartwarming tale (tail?!) of animals and nature, after Cat's home is swept away in a flood. Animation fans loved that this no-dialogue feature kept things simple and let the beautiful scenes speak for themselves.

16. Kneecap

Love Percentage: 28.41%

This sort-of autobiographical musical feature shows the comedic journey of an Irish-speaking rap group from Belfast trying to fight to keep their language alive in Northern Ireland. It might not quite be Trainspotting, it might not quite be Straight Outta Compton, but the amateur leading men and fun songs show a lot of wit and passion, according to our users.

15. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Love Percentage: 28.62%

This origin story from the world of Mad Max stars Anna Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, caught between warring tyrants as she tries to find her way back home. The world building in this film is what Criticker users really loved. Plus the cinematography that really packed a punch on the big screen.

14. The Substance

Love Percentage: 29.1%

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are the stars of this modern body horror movie about an aging starlet who uses a black market drug to make a younger, better version of herself. Users on Criticker loved everything about this blockbuster, from the disgustingly vibrant visuals to the nods to films of the past.

13. The Seed of the Sacred Fig

Love Percentage: 31.58%

This Iranian film is the story of a judge, a missing gun, and a family in turmoil, all set against the background of the political unrest in Tehran. A controversial film in its home country, viewers from Criticker felt that the film dealt with the current issues boldly and bravely.

12. Ghostlight

Love Percentage: 31.67%

When a construction worker unexpectedly joins a local theater’s production of Romeo and Juliet, the drama onstage starts to mirror his own life in this quietly impactful drama. The themes in this movie were a hit with Criticker users, as well as the acting performances.

11. The Greatest Night in Pop

Love Percentage: 31.67%

What's not to like with a film with such huge star power. This documentary tells the story of the recording of a charity single for famine relief in Africa, way back in 1985. The individual storylines were gripping and the fly-on-the-wall nature of the film made for a fascinating watch.

10. The Wild Robot

Love Percentage: 33.84%

Another animation to kick off the top ten most-loved titles. In this one, Lupita Nyong'o voices Roz, a robot stranded on a desert island, forced to find her humanity thanks to a host of animal friends. Criticker users grabbed the tissues to watch this wholesome, feel-good movie with an original story.

9. Sing Sing

Love Percentage: 34.25%

Much like Ghostlight at number 12, this is another story of an uunlikely person finding comfort in theatre. This time it's Divine G, imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, who joins a prison theatre group. A beautiful and heartfelt film, according to Criticker users, with great performances all round.

8. A Real Pain

Love Percentage: 35.14%

Two mismatched cousins come together to honour the memory of their grandmother with a trip to Poland, when old tensions come back to the fore between them. Culkin and Eisenberg inhabit their roles beautifully in this laugh out loud yet touching dramedy.

7. Crossing

Love Percentage: 35.48%

A retired teacher and her neighbour travel to Istanbul to look for a long lost neice, Tekla. Meeting a trans rights lawyer and exploring the back streets of the city help them to get closer to finding what they're looking for. A deliberate yet subtle film full of great acting performances.

6. Hundreds of Beavers

Love Percentage: 36.36%

This madcap low-budget movie is a masterpiece according to one Criticker user! In it a drunken applejack salesman must try to become North America's greatest fur trapper by defeating hundreds of beavers. It's Loony Tunes / Charlie Chaplin / Buster Keaton stylings are original and hilarious.

5. Ibelin

Love Percentage: 37.04%

When Mats Steen, a 25 year old gamer died, his parents mourned what they thought had been a lonely life, until hundreds of messages started to stream in from online friends all over the world. This is a very moving documentary about friendship that's well told.

4. Look Back

Love Percentage: 40.45%

A love of drawing manga brings two small-town girls, one overly confident and one shy, together in this stellar Japanese animation. Criticker users fell in love with this simple and profound story, which also has a beautiful score, as well as of course some lovely animation.

3. Memoir of a Snail

Love Percentage: 42.5%

Grace Pudel, a melancholic woman is the star of this stop motion animation, voice by Sucession's Sarah Snook. The general consensus from Criticker users is that it's a heart-breaking and depressing watch, but one that in the end, leaves you feeling good and hopeful about the world and yourself.

2. Anora

Love Percentage: 45.83%

Mikey Madison stars as Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn who impulsively marries a Russian oligarch. In true Sean Baker style, this film grabs you and doesn't let go until the final scene has finished. Criticker members raved about Madison's performance as well as Baker's storytelling.

1. Dune: Part Two

Love Percentage: 53.32%

Paul Atreides is back in the second part of this big budget blockbuster, coming in at number one in Criticker's most-loved films of 2024. This time, he unites with the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Criticker users think this is a sequel that definitely lives up to the first. Chalamet's performance has a lot of chemistry and life, and the whole film's visuals and narrative is near perfect. This film was meant to be seen on the big screen. Did you catch it?
