We have just released a new batch of fixes and updates to Criticker, including a couple of cool new features.
Hope you like all these changes! And if you spot any errors, please let us know either via email to support@criticker.com, or with the Report a Bug form.
Enhancements
Justwatch Streaming Charts - We've worked with JustWatch to add an exciting new option to our Trending Titles page: the ability to see what's trending on streaming platforms. You can also refine on genre and/or platform. So if you're wondering what Horror titles are hot on Netflix right now... that's completely possible! The information is provided directly from Justwatch, using their in-house data and analytics, and differ significantly from Criticker's charts.
We do have a lot of country-specific platforms, but not every country ... and not every platform appears in the filter. If you're a Criticker Sponsor, and you don't see your country or favorite platform represented, send an email to sponsor@criticker.com, and we'll see if we can get that added!
Different Brand Colors for Games - Since our relaunch, it's been difficult to know whether you're on the Films version of Criticker, or the Games version. You kind of had to puzzle out whether you were looking at a poster of Uncharted the Movie, or Uncharted the Game. No longer! We've changed the brand colors of the site for Games, so it will be immediately apparent which version you're currently on.
Bug Fixes
More Recent Trending Titles - We made a modification to our Trending Titles algorithm, to disregard the ratings of brand new users when building these stats. Nothing against newbies! But it's natural that new users tend to rate the most popular films right away -- think Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Inception, Dune. And with the surge of new users we've been getting lately, that was throwing these charts off.
Auto-Expand More Options - Ever since our relaunch, people have been asking us to get rid of the "More Options" link under the poster, and show those options by default. And we've now done that! And we've also added a new "Find on Amazon" link for most titles.
Panels in "missing films" not clickable - Across the site, there were a few areas where title posters were not clickable. Whenever you see one of those "cards", you're meant to be able to click on the poster and be taken to the title in question, but this wasn't happening. That's been fixed!
Newsletter dynamic user stats - An exciting addition to our bi-weekly Criticker Personal Updates is the addition of a small section at the top of the newsletter, which sums up your last two weeks on Criticker. Not yet subscribed to our newsletter? Why not try it out, and get a neat little review of what's happening on the site, and what your kumpels are watching! You can subscribe by going to your Profile, clicking on "Update Personal Information", and then checking "Biweekly newsletters" under "Email Preferences".
"Average Percentile" not visible on mobile - A good catch from user CriticalCat, who rightly pointed out that this information was missing on mobile. No longer!
Tea in the Harem Shows Up in Many Searches - This was a really bizarre one, which had to do with character collation in our AKAs search. It should be fixed now!
Keep Search Term in Input - Previously, when you executed a search, the "Search Box" was reset to empty. Now, we keep the search term in there, so you can modify it as needed. There's also a new "clear" button, so you can quickly start a new search.
Incorrect release type in collections - Another tricky one, which had to do with our classification of title "types" (like short film, tv episode, tv movie, etc). We had to do a lot of cleanup, but this should be looking better now.
Most Popular Mini-Reviews - A bug on the User Profile was causing ALL of a user's starred reviews to load, which (for some popular users especially) caused the page to take forever to load. We've restored the more concise version, where you can click on "See More" if you want more than just 10.
Starred Reviews suggestion - A straightforward suggestion to have "Starred Reviews" appear twice in the menu. Now, if you choose the one under "Explore", you're brought to the Overall Star Ratings. If you choose the one under your profile, you get to Your Starred Reviews (assuming you have some!)
New comment alerts to bug reports - This should hopefully be fixed now!
Better handling of unknown seasons - Usually, episodes and seasons follow a predictable pattern, but there are episodes out there which don't have a season OR an episode number, but still belong to the overall series (think Christmas specials). From now on, those will be included in a season called "Unknown"
List year first in collection film additions - Quick little fix to put the year first when searching for titles to add to a colleciton.
Plus, we've done a ton of behind-the-scenes fixes for performance, structure, and styling, which you might not notice, or just detect in a subtle way. Thanks again to everyone who uses Criticker... and get ready for more great updates and changes soon!
