Class of Heroes (2008) - Rated 07 May 2024
"I played the modern Anniversary edition. It's not terrible, but you can tell it's a port of an old portable game. It feels like it was made on a small budget, with everything stretched too thin, and a lot of things thrown in just to say they're there. What I imagine AI-made games will be like. I enjoyed the first maybe third of it, but then it started to really drag and get tedious, and I just wanted to finish it, but it went on for quite a bit longer than I expected."

"The first 15 hours are a lot more fun than the next 15. The game is a melting pot of random game ideas that wasn't really fully thought out in terms of balance or progression, but it's fun for a while, especially with friends. I just think it falls apart more and more the further you get into it."

"Awesome. My favorite roguelike in recent history."

"I was having fun up until I hit the absolute brick wall of a difficulty spike that was the museum boss, who attacks seemingly endlessly from 10x as far as you can, can barely be punished for 1/30th of her life, and can instantly jump 100 ft away from you. After fighting her for a while, and being on the verge of just uninstalling because I didn't feel like trying to master the game mechanics two hours into the game, I instead lowered the difficulty to easy, and finished the game that way."

Final Fantasy Tactics (1997) - Rated 15 Jan 2024
"Probably my favorite game of all time. The way you could mix and match abilities made for some crazy fun combinations and made re-playing the game always enjoyable. It was also easy to replay because there is essentially no filler, it's just all menus for towns / shops, the cut scenes, and then the combat was the focus."

Gravity Circuit (2023) - Rated 11 Jan 2024
"It's a solid little megaman style game, but a few things knocked it down slightly for me. The attack range is really really short. Any time you had to use the grappling hook for platforming was a bit frustrating (grappling hook aim is with left stick, which is also how you move). I also felt like most of the "powers" were a bit superfluous, and missed the interactivity of powers in other megaman games and how they could be used in levels or against other bosses. Still, solid game."

"Fast-paced difficult shoot'em up with nice visuals, music, and customization options. The easiest difficulty is still not easy to 1CC, but it's manageable. There are also extensive practice options."

Metal: Hellsinger (2022) - Rated 11 Jan 2024
"This game seems like it would be made specifically for me. I enjoy: first person shooters, metal music (including many of the featured artists), and rhythm games. But I just don't think the mechanics make for interesting gameplay, and the novelty of it wears off very quickly. Add to that the 100% linear levels, with the same "doors close, kill all enemies to proceed" progression over and over, minimal variance in enemies and literally the same boss for 99% of the game, and it falls flat."

Blood West (2023) - Rated 11 Jan 2024
"It's okay, and I even quite enjoyed it at times, but it overstays its welcome. The simple gameplay loop never evolves, and the systems fall apart by the end. Resources aren't scarce (and exploration gives you mostly resources, so exploration is not very useful), leveling doesn't matter, and you're still doing the same thing in the 15th hour as you were doing in the first. The third act is pretty weak, all three bosses in the game aren't great, and the ending is underwhelming."
