When I turned my attention to Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible II, I found myself as one gazing upon a city not yet sanctified. It promises revelation, offering battles where demons may be summoned and paths where the faithful may test their courage. At moments, the heart is lifted, for the call to recruit strange allies and engage in combat awakens the spirit to wonder. The world itself is not barren: its story seeks to instruct in perseverance, and its characters labor to mirror the struggle of souls caught between light and darkness.

And yet, the road is wearisome. The dungeons, in their sameness, are like barren fields trodden without fruit. The encounters come often, their weight not in meaning but in repetition, so that one’s spirit grows heavy rather than sharpened. How much more glorious had it been if each step kindled discovery, rather than dulled the senses?

Still, I do not condemn it entirely. Even flawed works bear a hidden light, reminding us of what they reach for, though they cannot fully grasp it. Last Bible II points toward the transcendent ideal of adventure joined with purpose, but stumbles before it may arrive there. Thus, it mirrors the condition of our own striving: noble in intent, faltering in execution, and yet worthy of contemplation.

So I left it not in bitterness, but in sober reflection, remembering that all earthly works are imperfect shadows of the eternal, and even the games of men, though marred, may direct the heart toward higher things—if we will read them rightly.
Mini Review: Like a pilgrim on uneven ground, I found in this tale both promise and burden. Its battles and summons stir the heart, yet repetition and dim clarity weigh upon the soul. Not all is lost: beneath its flaws lies a faint light, pointing toward higher visions, though the journey falters before reaching grace.
