BlazBlue: Continuum Shift

2009
Fighting
An official sequel to BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. Retains the traditional 2D fighter gameplay of two characters participating in a duel on a two dimensional plane. A match can consist of one to five rounds known as "rebels". To win a round, one player must either deplete the other one's life gauge to 0 by inflicting enough damage through various attacks or by having more remaining health after the round's timer depletes. Not a major improvement, but it adds Tsubaki so it's automatically better than Calamity Trigger.

A slight improvement over Blazblue just because of all the content it adds. Ultimately the base gameplay of CT wasn't changed that much, so you know what to expect. But CSII is where it went downhill for me - Arksys decided to arbitrarily change how comboing works for multiple characters and turned the game into a corner combo clown fiesta. This is the point where I stopped bothering with the series.
