It's wonderfully designed by essentially making every other players turn matter. Other games where you are trying to make an economic flow (I'm thinking of Scythe specifically) you spend a lot of time caring about your player board/turns and little about other peoples. This incorporates a necessary level of interaction where you care as much about other players boards and turns as you do you own.
