Role-Playing
The third edition of Dungeons & Dragons (3E) resolves most actions with the roll of a 20-sided plus appropriate modifiers. 3E expanded the combat system; introduced new character options, like the sorcerer class, and prestige classes, which can only be acquired at higher character levels and if prerequisites are met; removed previous restrictions on class and race combinations, and on the level advancement of non-humans; and allowed further customization with skills and feats. The edition that made me quit role-playing games until 4e came out. I HATE third edition. Unbalanced, poorly written, full of trap options, discrete skill ranks for no reason that makes sense in a D&D game, and a toxic player culture. HOW IS THIS THE ONE EVERYONE LIKES?!?! Ah well, may as well go on dates.

I do love D&D, and this was the edition when I started playing tabletop. Overall, well done.

The D20 system overall is a solid one, but I never liked prestige classes and feats, and the supplementary material vacillated between anodyne and useless.
