Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

At its best it's fantastic, crazy ambitious, especially for a comparatively small studio. An amalgamation of compelling open world mechanics and gripping medieval (hi)story. At its worst it's a frustrating, bug ridden, shoddily designed mess, with way too many "did they have any kind of QA at all?!?!"-moments for a "finished" product. Not the best day one purchase. Still, it has violence and wit and boobs and moral conundrums and NO. FUNNY. STUFF. It's almost old school. Thanks, warhorse.

One of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had. There are glitches in it, there are imperfections - but you have to admire how dedicated the team was, how determined they were to bring an excellent story, set in unbelievably detailed world. I'd love to see other studios understanding what exactly that means - that the word 'detailed' doesn't stand for graphic, but that the world in which the game takes place, is believable, realistic and living. And that all while not sacrificing fun.

An utter mess of a game, with an enjoyable main story. The sheer amount of systems that govern its world is astounding, but you really need to be in love with the aesthetic to get the full dividend. If you're not a medieval-fanatic and willing to indulge in the tedium of simulated mundane activities, you will find yourself wanting to speed-run the story, to the detriment of your enjoyment. And by god, this has got to be the worst combat system of any game I've ever played.
