Rally-X

Rally-X is a prophecy of the dromocratic state. The maze is a military grid where acceleration equals exposure. Its radar tears the eye between territory and data, prefiguring the drone pilot’s detached lethality. Red cars are not rivals, but kinetic enforcers of a system where the only defense is the smoke screen—a tactic of disappearance in an era of total visibility. Namco's next big maze chase game a few months after Pac-Man. A fun and straightforward take on the genre, with a bit of influence from 70s games like Head-On and such. The big, sprawling levels and randomized flag locations make things less predictable than Pac-Man, but the radar screen keeps things manageable. Didn't gain its lovable and much-remixed theme song until the next year's sequel, New Rally-X, though there is a simpler background tune for the first game.
