A game that boasts both style and substance. What makes Shinobi stick out in the genre is that it emphasizes movement, momentum, and enemy prioritization over comboing or a multitude of different combat mechanics. It works in Shinboi because the enemies are tough but fairly designed, your movement options are superb, and the energy system is satisfying and rewarding to utilize. The lack of checkpoints can be obnoxious and the level design can be a bit wonky, but this is an outstanding title.
