Snowboard Kids

1997
Racing
In addition to the usual gameplay of a snowboarding game, Snowboard Kids adds special weapons and items which can help the player, hinder other players, or both. The game has nine courses, some snowy mountains and others that would be unorthodox for snowboarding in the real world, such as an amusement park, a desert, and a Japanese village during the cherry blossom festival. Each track has a unique shape, containing various obstacles, hazards, and short-cuts. (Wikipedia)

Bizarrely I feel like this has almost aged better than Mario Kart 64, if only because it hasn't had a large string of more technically advanced and better sequels rendering it a largely irrelevant novelty. It is a ton of cartoony racing fun and the addition of different boards (including secret boards) with various different abilities was another thing that stood apart from many other N64 racing games.
