Mechanically the game lacks the momentum and physics that made the original Sonic games good. Momentum simply doesn't exist and you can stop yourself immediately, eliminating any of the challenges the original had with its enemy and platform placement. Instead, the game makes you rely on the unnecessary homing attack with lame level gimmicks that make the levels practically play themselves. It was clear this game was designed with 3D Sonic traits in mind which the game suffers for.
