Star Traders: Frontiers

The battles are a clusterfuck of skills and RNG that aren't designed in an intuitive or interesting way since most of them are just boring buffs with barely noticeable effects. The trading aspect is interesting but the universe is so vast that decision making with trading usually comes down to "sell it whenever possible" as it's impractical to make trading routes due to how the quest system works. The plot and lore is neat, but it doesn't salvage what is otherwise boring gameplay.

A space trading/RPG combining story and procedurally generated missions, which has become quite deep and complex thanks to frequent incremental updates. Sadly, a lot of major issues aren't being addressed, including an outrageously opaque GUI, convoluted combat rules, some overly random game systems, and an 'unlock' mechanic that forces play on a roguelike 'ironman' savefile. Such obstacles guarantee a steep learning curve and a lot of frustration. The game is still highly addictive.
