Star Wars is a Family Computer video game released in 1987 by Namco. Despite being based on the first Star Wars film, some levels are based on the later two Star Wars films. It is one of only two games in the Star Wars franchise that were released exclusively in Japan, the other being Star Wars: Attack on the Death Star. The game is a side-scrolling platform game where the player controls Luke Skywalker as he travels to join the Rebellion against the Empire.

Surely this must have been a completely different game at some point - it's just too weird (recurring mini boss, Darth Vader, transforms into different monsters) and irrelevant (Luke doesn't travel to a mountain or ice planet in A New Hope) to have been initially crafted for the first movie. It does have a similar force power mechanic to Empire Strikes Back (NES) though it debuted half a decade earlier, and the graphics are admittedly impressive in some parts. Overall boring, though.
