Starbound

There is something here, in its execution or atmosphere, that raises it above the 2d platformer/builder/minecraft/terraria games.

One of my favorite procedurally generated sandbox games. A generally better Terraria, and overall fantastic, introducing such improvements as randomized equipment as loot. One major flaw is the planet eco-systems being confined to a linear progression, making the universe feel less varied. There is a tantalizing albeit disappointingly difficult and time-consuming terraforming system in the late game.

A remarkable achievement! The way other people feel about Minecraft and Diablo II, I feel about Starbound. It's more structured than the former, and less mindless than the latter, which is why I actually like Starbound. It's easy to lose track of time when you're playing this.
