It Handicaps the player on easy mode. You get 4 lives each per level. It saves after each level. However with the 3 difficulty options you choose from easy to hard, I think easy should be unlimited lives. This way anyone can beat this game. They don't seem to do that in modern games that are 2D platformers for whatever reason. Game has 7 levels.
