System Shock Remake

i guess it's tough to bring a cult classic to new life without either ruining it for old school purists or current gen gamers. the key word is compromise here, and i think it's fairly well achieved. you weren't led by the hand back in the day, and i think "modern" gaming could benefit from not just ticking off boxes and following dots on your minimap. sure, (almost) nobody would've minded better inventory design or combat feedback, but i for one don't mind all that much here.

Decent remake, but should've been modernized more. A whole lot of running around while being clueless what to do. Key information is given in audio logs, but you can't remember most of it if you leave the game for some days and then return.

good remake, there's nothing more to say

Feels more like a FPS metroidvania than what would qualify for an immersive sim today. Enjoyable for what it is, but it leaves you wanting more...

I know how important this game is, and I'm a fan of immersive sims, but I just cannot get into this. In 94, sure, but now? There are some really outdated mechanics in this that just make things annoying. Managing my inventory becomes a chore, for example. The combat feels terrible and lacks any real punch. And the atmosphere would have been fine had I not been so bothered by these things. In a year with great remasters/remakes, this just doesn't cut it.
