New Pokémon Snap (2021) - Rated 20 Jul 2026

I fail to understand the appeal. You are stuck on a train track staring at stuff. No story to speak of. Some people enjoy the nature-centricity of the game, with no dialogue and little to no interaction with the observable surroundings. Jesus people, just go out. I know this is rich coming from a middle aged Pokemon nerd, but even I'm not this depressively wanting to avoid the real world.

Aight. Beat for beat remake of the classics. Better suited for new players of players who need their Sinnoh dex to connect with Pokemon Home.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (2022) - Rated 20 Jul 2026

The story is actually very solid and most of the dex newcomers are excellent, like the fan favorite Tinkatonk that is a battling powerhouse. Arven, Turo, Team Star and Clavell all have compelling character moments and some storylines actually garnered few teardrops from me. But goddamn if this game isn't ugly. This entry has the dubious honor of having the absolutely worse art direction in ANY of the Pokemon games.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus (2022) - Rated 20 Jul 2026

I wasn't necessarily wowed by some of the new mechanics with battling and capturing, like stealth balling and no abilities. Other changes, like picking and choosing your Pokemon's moves, were very welcome. All in all, the changes weren't too egregious for an old timey fan to enjoy the core gameplay. The story is serviceable, but where this game truly shines (in comparison to other contemporary Pokemon releases) is the art direction and atmosphere. I truly felt I was in the olden days of Sinnoh.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! & Let's Go, Eevee! (2018) - Rated 20 Jul 2026

Baby's first Pokemon game. I wouldn't recommend this to more seasoned fans since this is not your typical mainline game. It lacks many of the more complex features such as Pokemon abilities or held items. It removes a lot of the chess elements the mainline games are renowned for. Die hard fans might get a little nostalgia tickle out of strolling Kanto on the back of your Onix or Charizard.

I know this isn't a "Fuck Everything" simulator, but... C'mon. I've completed 80% of the game and none of my endings have featured so much as a kiss. Game has crashed on me more than half a dozen times. My latest crash happened when I was playing through dating the devs. It's probably the most text heavy part of the game and it killed my willingness to go back into the game, knowing I have to start from the top... xxXShadowl0rd420Xxx is brilliant, most others are meh.

Played on the Switch. I don't know if this is a platform optimisation issue, but Yonder looks barren and plain ugly. I don't get the raving reviews. I appreciate there isn't any hand-holding in the game but no story either! There are NPC's willing to dish out fetch quests but no over-arching story (at least in my few hours of gameplay).

The "romance" is so milk-toasty and hand-holdy, don't even bother with this title for that. I liked the atmosphere and visuals, but goddamn the player character is such a whiny, snarky and rude snot nose.
