Maquette (2021) - Rated 24 Nov 2023

There's some solid ideas here, but the execution is completely lacking. The puzzles range from incredibly easy to esoterically impossible, and the story is rarely accentuated by the game design, though they try their hardest. Feels more like a tech demo than an actual game.

Super Mega Baseball 4 (2023) - Rated 24 Nov 2023

Mechanically, still the best baseball game around in the last ten years. 4 adds some legendary players that are a blast to play with, a lottery draft that's tons of fun to perfect, and some of the buggiest issues a fourth game in a series should never have. If you're willing to deal with some of the bugs, the legends and lottery make it a slight step up from 3.

Alan Wake II (2023) - Rated 24 Nov 2023

While full of minor (and a few major) flaws in design and gameplay, I've never had more fun playing a narrative videogame since Half-Life 2. If you're into Remedy games and the lore of Alan Wake, this game will be a mesmerizing survival horror classic.

Firewatch (2016) - Rated 24 Nov 2023

With the worst of the walking sims, it commits the mortal sin of choosing the wrong medium to tell its story. Were this a podcast, I'd be completely enamored. Unfortunately, it's a videogame that isn't a videogame. You click buttons and press W to walk forward, but everything else is scripted save for the moments of dialogue, which work at the same level as a Goosebumps choose-your-own-adventure novel. It's a shame too, because the world design is almost amazing.

Super R.B.I. Baseball (1995) - Rated 07 Mar 2023

Endless hours of fun with this. For the time, captures variety in player archetypes well with tons of historic teams and rosters. The 91 Pirates are a force unlike anything known before or after.

Control (2019) - Rated 07 Mar 2023

Remedy continue to be the only studio making interesting and fresh third person shooters. While not quite the level of the Max Payne games (relative to release), the combat is more refreshing than Alan Wake and the level design and story are as off the wall as Remedy has gotten.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) - Rated 07 Mar 2023

Dark Souls with a Star Wars skin by a studio that doesn't understand Dark Souls or Star Wars.

Alpha Protocol (2010) - Rated 24 Jul 2018

The most mediocre game I want to be good ever made.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2007) - Rated 18 Jul 2018

The most repetitive shooter ever made. My favorite part was the skeleton that had a beard, therefore it had to be Sir Francis Drake.

Mario Kart Wii (2008) - Rated 18 Jul 2018

It's definitely the worst Mario Kart game to date. Too many goofy "casual" design choices prevent it from being actually competitive. The best way to win is stay in last for the whole race until halfway through the last lap and get every powerup. Playing with the wheel mode is actually super fun because it's insane and controls like a snowmobile DUI.
