The most mediocre game I want to be good ever made.

To the game's credit, it manages to create reactivity to your actions in a way games rarely do. But it doesn't matter how you play the game, the storytelling is completely laughable with shoddy stealth mechanics and generic cover shoot gameplay. A neat idea that's bogged down by doing nothing particularly well.

Shooters are typically boring, mediocre, and repetitive. The story and RPG elements of Alpha Protocol at least liven up the tiresome genre.

Will revisit and reevaluate if I can even find another copy, it seems the download versions have been permanently delisted (for soundtrack licensing issues?) so an old physical copy is the only option these days

There are lots of things wrong with this game, but the choices and consequences are golden. Together with New Vegas, this title contributed to Obsidian's Annus Mirabilis of 2010. It was depressing to see how poorly Obsidian lived up to their own standards with later titles like Pillars and Tyranny.

Clunky but brilliantly done. Alpha Protocol innovated the dialogue system that would come to characterize cinematic adventure games and had a rewarding branched plot that continued to reveal new angles at least 5 plays through.

There's a reason that this is often called an underrated gem if you google search. It's wonky in some of the mechanics, but it's one of those games where the flaws don't seem to weigh down the game that much. These problems might be more noticeable in something else. But yeah, fun action and of course as other fans have already said, the dialogue choices mattered, which is a big deal. I unabashedly loved this game when I played it back in '10.

I just simply can't get into it. Might try it out with a friend someday to see if that makes it a more tolerable experience.

Was hoping for a Fallout New Vegas type game but it turns out all that boring talking is completely pointless because they just throw you into a bullet sponge shootout regardless. Even the stealth elements are entirely pointless since it's guaranteed to fall into a gunfight no matter what.
