"Maybe I'm being too harsh as IF is meant to be the grand finale that kicked off with one of my favorite and most personally impactful games of all time. But at the end all I thought was, "That's it? That's your finale?" Neil and Eva almost non-existent. What is the obsession with Faye? Where was the hallmark interactivity with objects and people in the memories? What's the point of letting sims "live" out the fantasy timeline? I'm not sure what I expected, but this ain't it."
47% Need for Speed: Underground 2 (2004) - Rated 11 Jul 2024
"I played it a few years after release, so likely lost some luster. It's a decently immersive open world racer with a lot to do and develop. This style is less my preference than other kinds of cars/settings,"
47% Pokémon Legends: Arceus (2022) - Rated 11 Jul 2024
"Captures more of the classic Pokémon feel while refreshing the formula a bit. A good effort."
75% Red Dead Redemption (2010) - Rated 11 Jul 2024
"Only playing it now it's been ported over, as I was over the GTA formula at the time. It shows its age, but there's a lot to love, even with only a passing interest in Westerns. John Marston is a very well written and performed character. Worth playing just to get familiar with him alone. Yes, the game is empty, but it should be-the setting is open. And you always have hunting and random events along the way."
47% The Big Con (2021) - Rated 11 Jul 2024
"Game is hit or miss based on the style. If you're a 90s cartoon kid, it will carry. If not, there's no reason to play it. It's written just well enough, short enough it doesn't overstay it's welcome. But pretty basic. Really more an adventure game than anything, befitting the time. A few times, story advanced when I wasn't done, so could have done with more warning before being locked out."
47% Spiritfarer (2020) - Rated 11 Jul 2024
"I love the premise, but a lot of the actual game fell short. I'm giving it a lot of credit for design, the game itself isn't very fun. It's a clicker game, basically."
75% Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024) - Rated 01 Apr 2024
"One of the best games to come out in some time. A strong candidate for a 5, but unfortunately there's simply TOO much to this game, IMO. I may revise that later, as SE continues to nail the remake process. It's 95% true to the original, but just different enough to engage the original players. Most fleshing out of scenes is done well, and they do a great job of making nods to the original, even the silliness."
75% Chrono Trigger (1995) - Rated 01 Apr 2024
"This is the "My Neighbor Totoro" of gaming. It's comfortable, familiar, and has universal appeal. There's very little to point to and say is done poorly. That said, while I enjoyed the game it wasn't full of WOW as I expected from all the hype. I'm also not enamored with the Toriyama style so perhaps that put me off a bit."
75% Pharaoh (1999) - Rated 29 Jan 2024
"Possibly the best of the "walker" style city builders. This game offers strong strategic depth, a puzzle game by another name as you struggle to keep all your platers spinning. It can be highly frustrating, though, as one house surrounded by shrines and gardens complains about desirability, your palace is robbed despite double police coverage, and the timing of farming jacks up your fledgling city. And the early missions without roadblocks are a nightmare. Don't be dissuaded, it's a great game."
