Hollow Knight
I like the art direction and I can see the effort and polish that went into it, and it's understandably well-regarded in the metroidvania community. This was actually the second metroidvania I tried after Ori and the Blind Forest and it was a complete whiplash. Not only is the game harder, three things completely ruined the game for me-
1. Corpse runs are extremely frustrating. You already died because you weren't skilled enough, so the game actively makes it even harder the next time by weakening your soul meter even further. And if you die in some area you weren't meant to visit early, just say goodbye to your Geo.
2. There are no save points before bosses, and running through a gauntlet of enemies just to retry again is extremely annoying. Not only that, you also lose the adrenaline you've gotten by the time you reach the boss again.
3. Unlike Ori, the map doesn't fill in automatically as you explore. It felt like I was wandering blindfolded in a maze.
I can see the craft behind the game and understand the high ratings, but this game let me know that Souslikes are just not my type of game.

Mini Review: Visuals are great and it's mechanically sound, but it's far too difficult, deaths are extremely punishing and serve to demotivate you rather than pushing you to go harder, and it feels like walking around blindly in a maze.
