Lollipop Chainsaw is awesome

A short arcade experience that focuses on fun and fan service with tons of replayability.

You are Juliet, a cheerleader, zombie hunter and a loving girlfriend that gives a whole new meaning to "giving head". ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan and of you go comboing away zombies with your pom poms and chainsaw. It's eye candy, it's fun, there's a lot of different mechanics that shake things up during this short campaign so as to not overstay its welcome. There's your main combat combos, a dash you unlock that plays like an arcade-runner and a gun (all very satisfying to use and pull off). Couple that with the tons of different scenarios the game will put you through, such a pac-man section or the elevator from DMC3.

The game also oozes presentation, leaning into the comic book aesthetic hard and the story does feel ripped right out of one. There's also a lot of extra modes, collectibles and costumes that can keep you coming back. The road to 100% the game is a long one (and one I took). The game does squeeze out every bit it can from its 6 (and a half) levels.

The biggest downside by far is how the in-engine cutscenes are unskippable, the game is linear and you get interrupted every few steps with a cutscene that can range from a couple of seconds to 30 full blown seconds. The parts that are actually playable are so much fun and I have no issues doing them over and over but having to constantly go through the same waiting with the game does get grating.

Other criticisms of the game are not as severe, the game is buggy, softlocks due to displacements are rare but happen, plus while the game leans into the comic book aesthetic for some reason the cell shading was toned down a lot. There's also an issue with enemies not telegraphing as well as they should and animations not lining up with hitboxes with certain enemies but it's something you can easily get used to.

It won't blow you away or anything but you're gonna be wishing it would.
