A perfectly fine idea, but they botched most of this. There are stupidly obtuse puzzles, the FMVs turned out like FMVs, and the story went from creepy but interesting to just straight up madness. Primarily meant to showcase the awesome technology of CD-ROM FMVs. Ended up one of the worst usages of FMVs.

Top badass moment? Reading the plot outline on Wikipedia. So that’s what it was all about - I had no idea. You know those football matches where your team grinds out a victory, but you find yourself wondering why you spent 90 minutes of your life on it? This game is like that, except it took me 11 times longer. I did frequently find myself wondering whether anyone had actually ever finished it without cheating, at least a bit. Stauf’s a knob by the way. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Ultra-cheesy FMV cutscenes, creepy atmosphere, and nigh-impossible puzzles. Has some charm, but man, some of those puzzles were fiendish.
