Astral Chain

I'm a huge fan of what I call Platinum and I think the action here works. But I wanted to love this more than I did; what prevented me from doing so is the investigations. It was supposed to add depth but they aren't very exciting and seem like an obstacle to getting to the stuff you really want. Even the action, while still good, is not their best. It's a good game, not a great one.

God, fuck this game. On top of the worthless, boring padding like the sidequests and god awful investigations, the combat is riddled with dumb enemy design that's bolstered by damage sponge numbers, pointless RPG mechanics, inconsistent defensive options, annoying gimmicks, shitty setpieces, and awful camera. I'll give it credit that training room combos are cool and that the chain mechanic is a neat concept in theory, but this game constantly finds ways to piss me off with dumb bullshit.

This game is terrible. It has a decent common story of Aliens attacking & you fending them off. Camera angles are awful. Controls are terrible. You use a Legion in this which is a Warrior attached with you holding him on your chain. So it's like walking your dog around on a leash except here you have it attack enemies. Certain points they won't tell you what to do or where to go. You have to kill enemies in a certain way which I've never done in other games. Rpg Elements.
