Lakeland is a prosperous country until the evil being Zerah pollutes all of Lakeland's rivers and lakes, making people very sick. He does this in hopes to release the Evil Spirit, which is hiding underneath Lagoon Castle, so Zerah lifts Lagoon Castle into the clouds to where no one can reach it. With all this, Lakeland needs a hero: Nasir, the Champion of the Light. Nasir must go through many lands, challenge many monsters, and meet many people who will help him on his quest. (Wikipedia)

Simple but pretty action RPGs were all the rage on Japanese home computers, particularly after Ys was such a big hit, and sure enough, this started out as a Sharp X68000 title. The graphics and music are nice, but the gameplay's just a bore. Even just bumping into things like in the first couple Ys titles was more exciting than brandishing the silly little sword in this thing.

The game definitely appeals to my sensibilities in its aesthetics and fantasy atmosphere and so on, but I find the action aspect of it vaguely infuriating - swinging your sword feels so short and mushy and unfocused and ineffectual, with none of the satisfying snap of attacking an enemy in A Link to the Past. Because of this even the most minor enemy encounter frustrates.
