Master of Magic is a turn-based strategy game where the player controls a wizard who is competing with other wizards for mastery, which can be achieved by defeating all other wizards or by researching and casting the spell of mastery. To reach that goal it is necessary to build up cities, research spells, explore the world, battle against monsters and take control of valuable resources.

A fantastic turn-based strategy title. On the grand scale, it borrows Civilization-style exploration and city development. Various schools of magic and fantasy races serve as a more interestingly complicated and flexible means of advancing than a dully predictable tech-tree system. Thorough knowledge of the many units and abilities can really sway things in the tactical battles that made this something special. (I will admit to just cheesing fleets of warships with "flight" on occasion, though.)
