Monster Party

1989
Action, Platformer
The story centers on a child named Mark who, on his way home from a baseball game, is approached by a winged, gargoyle-like alien named Bert who seeks assistance in ridding evil monsters from his realm. The player takes the role of Mark, who wields his bat to attack and to deflect projectiles. The game both pays homage to and parodies horror pop culture, alternately featuring enemies and locations based on classic horror icons, and parodic reinterpretations. (Wikipedia)

I love how crazy the game is allowed to get, especially for the NES, but besides laughing at the creative silliness of the mini-bosses, it's not all that much fun.

Largely remembered these days for its bizarre and grotesque imagery by NES standards, what's underneath is a pretty basic and simple and generic NES platformer but one worth raising an interested eyebrow at.
