The only way to make sports games not suck is to pump them up with arcade controls and leniency on the rules. Because, and I know this sounds weird, real life doesn't always transfer to video games so well. NHL Hitz cracked this code. It's an absurd 3-on-3 arcade style game with power-ups and simple, easy-to-learn controls. And I love it. Everyone I've made play it has liked it.
