Need For Speed Underground 2 takes place in Bayview after the events of Need for Speed: Underground. The prologue begins with the player driving in a Nissan Skyline R34 in Olympic City (though the racing scenes are actually in Bayview), the setting of NFS:UG. He then receives a race challenge from a rather ominous personality who offers him a spot on his crew, but "won't take 'no' for an answer." The player races off — despite Samantha's warnings — only to be ambushed by a mysterious driver in a rage that totals his Skyline. The driver, who has a unique scythe tattoo, makes a call confirming the accident, and the flashback fades out.

I played it a few years after release, so likely lost some luster. It's a decently immersive open world racer with a lot to do and develop. This style is less my preference than other kinds of cars/settings,

Underground 2 has one of the most extensive tuning options to date. With a great soundtrack and amazing gameplay, controls and open-world this was the next logical step from Underground 1.

Need for Speed Underground 2 tries to inject a story into your career mode using static-image cutscenes that pop up before some races. The effect is similar to what the Max Payne series does with its noninteractive sequences, though that game pulls it off much better than Need for Speed Underground 2 does. Dopey story short, you're sent off to a new town after getting ambushed by a rival racing crew, and you'll have to start from scratch with one car and a handful of races to get you going.

For a time, this was the best street racer. It had customization options ahead of it's time and the mechanics of driving were incredibly refined.

I'm not sure whether I'd pick this or Midnight Club 3 for my favorite street racing game, both are very fun. Most of the modes are fun, drag racing could be a lot better.
