Omori

OMOCAT's style and presentation create a wonderful atmosphere. The writing is solid but is not weighty enough for its "punch" to hit hard. It still hits, though, and the game is absolutely worth playing through.

The story rightfully gets praise because it is told well and hits hard emotionally. Explores its themes wonderfully. The rest of the game is a little more iffy: the sprites are uninspired, even though the world that's built is a little more enticing. But the animation/hand-drawn elements elsewhere (such as battles) are amazing. Music is good. The combat has a nice hook that isn't used inventively enough, resulting in mostly tedious combat that doesn't require much strategy most of the time.
