I dig a lot of the unique decisions in regards to kit design and how cleverly it avoids conventional SRPG tropes. On the other hand, the game is incredibly imbalanced, melee units are near worthless, and characters with summonable allies are insanely strong. The plot is never particularly bad, but it never reaches any strong narrative points even with the admittedly solid twist around the end. The social links are all underwhelming, even if the cast is charming.

Has the foundation of a fine tactical combat game with decent enemy variety, a nice selection of abilities, and a character system that's fun to play around with. Loses points for the constant inexplicable loading screens, some annoying savegame restrictions, a number of balancing problems, and a few UI issues. Fair warning: Regalia has time limits that scale with difficulty. I had to manage my time very carefully on Nightmare, but you should have plenty of time to spare on easier difficulties.
